One of the games I took the time to check out while at GAMA Expo 2024 was Cyber Pet Quest from Dead Alive Games. I didn't actually play the game, but I got some insight on the art and gameplay directly from the creators. It's an intriguing idea, and I was surprised by the form factor- it's a lot smaller than a lot of other campaign games and the game really did look like each episode could be played in around 30 minutes. Did you ever want a cyber goose as a pet? Because you can have that in this game.
4 pets are always played, whether the game is played solo or with other people.
It's a branching storyline game where Cyms are locked in a virtual reality dream (the villains) and they are never fully defeated. The game plays over 6 chapters- with a final boss at the end.
Each player (1-4) picks a cyber pet (a raccoon, a goose, a cat, and a dog) and takes a player board in the game. The pets have different powers and abilities.
The custom keeps will be used to track where you at in the game as you face different challenges.
The rules and campaign appeared to be well laid out with numerous visuals and clear explanations. This will be absolutely essential as younger kids and families will be drawn to the game. It has a cute look and there are gaming groups who will want to try it to due to the cooperative nature of the game.
Each of the pets is unique and offers a different way to approach the game with their strengths. I'm very curious about who wanted a goose as a cyber pet though???
The game will also come with custom laser printed dice. Overall, for those who are interested in the game based on it being a cooperative game and a cute cover, you will not be disappointed by the component quality.
The villains from the game also have a story, the other side won't be revealed in this preview because that should be discovered in the campaign gameplay. The ultimate reveal is who the final villain boss is in the game.
Brendan Kendrick, Bernie Lin created the game and gave me the quick walk through.
You can follow along with the campaign by following this link. It will be on Kickstarter.
